Aurora Project delivers training in Indigenous affairs

Rio Tinto is a leading partner in the Aurora Project, which provides training and professional development to employees working at native title representative bodies.

Established in 2006 with funding from Rio Tinto and the Australian Government, and support from industry partners and organisations, Aurora offers native title training programmes to employees working at native title review boards and internships and placements to more than 60 other organisations working in Indigenous affairs.

More than 2,500 people applied to the internship programme in 2011, which placed more than 780 interns by mid-year.

Aurora also administers two annual postgraduate scholarship programmes: The Australian Government - Rio Tinto NTRB Scholarship programme and the Native Title Research Scholarship programme.

The project works in collaboration with the Charlie Perkins Trust for Children & Students to support Indigenous students on educational initiatives.
