Golf Links Estate work progressing
The second stage of the Golf Links Estate is well under way with the majority of installations and earthworks almost being completed.
Jo-Anne Scarini, Rio Tinto Alcan Weipa operations general manager, said the second stage of the estate is on track to be completed in November.
"Since March 2012, earthworks has been carried out to prepare the site with underground services such as water, sewerage and stormwater, which is currently being installed," Ms Scarini said.
"During construction works we will continue to water the construction site to help reduce dust being generated."
Some construction work will also be carried out in current Golf Links Estate stage one, as the final stages of the footpaths will be installed.
"The footpaths will be installed to link up to the existing footpaths along McLeod Drive and will allow good access for residents on foot or on their bikes," Ms Scarini said.
The Golf Links Estate is a project undertaken by Rio Tinto Alcan Weipa in order to help alleviate accommodation pressures in Weipa.
With construction scheduled for completion later this year, Rio Tinto Alcan Weipa is in discussions with the Weipa Town Authority about when the lots can be released to the market for sale.
"We will continue to keep the community updated in any progress of the Golf Links Estate," Ms Scarini said.
