Rio Tinto is proud to be an official partner of the Australian Olympic Team. Our support is helping more than 400 athletes compete on the world stage and continue Australia's proud Olympic history at the London 2012 Games.
In addition to supporting the Team, we are supporting three great Australian Olympians; pole vault sensation, Steve Hooker, three-time Olympic swimming champion, Libby Trickett and three-time Olympic gold medallist in rowing, Drew Ginn.
These athletes not only inspire us with their courage and dedication to achieve their best, but also exemplify some of the qualities we value most at Rio Tinto - accountability, respect, teamwork, integrity and an un-wavering commitment to safety.
Rio Tinto has been backing Australians for more than 100 years, and our support for the Australian Olympic Team is another example of this.
We are also proud to be supplying all the metal used to produce the 4700 medals being awarded at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The metal comes from our Kennecott Utah Copper mine near Salt Lake City, United States, and our Oyu Tolgoi project in Mongolia.
We hope to see many of our Aussie athletes returning home wearing Rio Tinto metal around their necks!
